During my timE with Costain I identified several process improvemEnt opportunities which I helped change manage into implemEntation phase both for the project I was assigned to, and to the wider business.

CAP operated on a £20M turnover employing more than 190 personnel working in batch and bespoke manufacture of equipmEnt as well as installation and supervision of contract labour. After initial reviews of the business, I implemEnted quality system manufacturing techniques and processes into the business which included Re-defining estimating processes to ensure clarity of work scope at contract award and clarity of cost and value information. Process mapping then re-defining and implemEntation of estimating, purchasing and accounts codes to allow estimate to cost reconciliation and monitoring. DevelopmEnt and implemEntation of a new purchase order system and procedure including automated generation of unique order numbers. DevelopmEnt and implemEntation of a Project cost To TILL and cost to complete reporting system. ImplemEntation of a project managemEnt based philosophy of contract execution. DevelopmEnt and implemEntation of a contract design, build and installation tracking process across the business. DevelopmEnt of Non-Conformance reporting and corrective action processes and implemEntation of root cause analysis on data obtained. These processes and procedural improvemEnts had a mEasurable effect on contract profitability, cost of manufacture and the reduction of irrecoverable costs. The attitude within the teams was also seen to improve with the removal of barriers between departmEnts and the introduction of a can do delivery team philosophy.
