High Voltage Advanced Level 3 Electrical Fitter Apprentice Cambridge, Cambridgeshire £8 (p.a)
Morrison Utility Services is currently looking to recruit a High Voltage Advanced Level 3 Electrical Fitter Apprentice to work on our UK Power Networkscontract in Cambridgeshire.
MUS is proud to be a key partner in the UKPN ED1SON Alliance, delivering substation build and refurbishment works across the East of England including design, project management, cable installation, building construction, jointing, switchgear, bunding, commissioning, decommissioning and demolition.
This is an exciting opportunity to become an apprentice in Morrison Utility Services with opportunities to progress within a highly respected company. Our business is centered upon the provision, replacement, repair and maintenance of utility network infrastructure, for example: electricity substations, water and gas pipes, electricity and telecommunication cables and installation of water, electricity and gas meters on behalf of blue chip utility companies in the UK.
Applicants for this opportunity must be 18 + years of age and prepared to work throughout England & Wales and to stay away from home if required. You will need to have a full driving licence and transport to get to work. Please do not apply, if you have not passed your test and don't have transport. You will hold GCSE's (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English, grades A-C or 9-5.
Trainees will spend up to 36 weeks at Utility & Construction Training Ltd (UCT) Carrington, Manchester acquiring the basic knowledge, skills and capability to enable them to work productively on the High Voltage Network before commencing work in the areas.
During the time at the training centres apprentices will partake in training at external providers sites including a team building activity week. Apprentices will have accommodation provided by Morrison Utility Services for set periods as required.
Note there will be an assessment centre for this opportunity which will take place on the Thursday 8th October a Stevenage Football Club Ltd, The Lamex Stadium, Broadhall Way, Stevenage, Hertfordshire, SG2 8RH. Applicants must be able to attend the assessment centre to be considered for the programme.
The apprenticeship programme will commence on Monday 9th November, and you must be available to start on this date.
Job Purpose:
The Morrison Utility Services Apprenticeship Programme, endorsed by Energy & Utility Skills and Accredited by the city & guilds, provides the opportunity for individuals to become fully trained and qualified "craft" persons on the 11kV to 132kV distribution network in the following trade 'Electrical Fitting'.
Principal Accountabilities:
Apprentices are expected to learn all aspects of their chosen craft and apply the knowledge, skills and techniques gained through the Apprenticeship Programme safely and in accordance with National standards.
Apprentices are expected to complete the Certificate in Electrical Power Engineering and a QCF Diploma in Electrical Power Engineering whilst on the Apprenticeship Programme.
- Fitters - Construction fitter duties, such as electrical fitting activities on High Voltage switch gear, transformers and associated equipment.
- Installation of Control and protection equipment.
- Installation of Earthing Systems.
- Installation of outdoor equipment such as Bus Bar, Disconnectors and Switchgear.
- Maintenance of High Voltage equipment.
- Fault Finding on Low and High Voltage equipment.
- Receiving High Voltage documents.
- Working as part of a team and where necessary under own initiative.
Essential Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
- Suitable applicants will be new to the power transmission and distribution industry and will have achieved GCSE's Grades 9 - 5 (A to C) in English, Maths and Science/Technology or equivalent.
- Applicants will need to demonstrate an interest in electronics, electricity or engineering and enthusiasm to work outdoors.
- Candidates will need to show the ability to work in a team.
- You must possess a high degree of manual dexterity demonstrated through the use of hand tools.
- You will be required to work outdoors in all weathers and be required to walk and stand on uneven ground.
- You must also be able to work within a confined space, without restriction.
- Candidates must be willing and able to undertake physically demanding work in all weather conditions.
- Applicants must live within the area they are applying for.
- A full Driving Licence.
Nature and Scope:
The Apprentice programme is 3 years in duration (indicative timescale), typically blocks of 2 - 3 weeks followed by a period in the field, putting learning into practice. This involves training in Electrical Power Engineering whilst gaining skills, knowledge, understanding and experience in their craft. The aim is to develop into a qualified crafts person high voltage electrical fitter.
Level 3 Advanced Sub Station Fitting.
City and Guilds L3 Diploma in Electrical Power Engineering - Distribution and Transmission (Technical knowledge) (2339-45).
During subsequent stages of the Apprentice programme you will gain more skills, knowledge and experience through training courses and through 'real time' working on the high voltage transmission and distribution system coupled with the acquisition of recognised qualifications. By the conclusion of the programme, you will have gained the full knowledge and skills to work productively on the high voltage transmission and distribution system and deemed to be a fully qualified craft person.
The assessment of ability and application of knowledge and skills will be conducted throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship Programme.
End-point Assessment
Successful achievement of the end-point assessment, will lead to final certification of the apprenticeship and demonstrate that the apprentice, is a fully qualified craftsperson in their occupational job role; who can work safely and confidently to install, maintain and repair a range of network assets...... click apply for full job details
