Software Tester – Job Description
Software testers are vital in an industry which includes the mantra that software is only as good as its testers.
So, if you fancy working out as many ways to break a product as possible, then a job as a software tester is for you. You’ll work on any number of different scenarios, all designed to test the software to its limits and all aimed at producing the best, bug-free product possible.
Software testers have a natural curiosity, a real technical understanding of software and how it’s developed, good written and oral skills and an ability to work to deadlines that are almost always commercial and rarely scientific.
Testing courses are few and far between – most testers use previous software development as a way in. Work experience and a relevant computing degree are typical entry-level requirements, and employers will want to see knowledge of programming languages and platforms.
