Business Manager – Career Advice
Business managers come in many different guises, from general managers to sales managers, but all of the posts involve responsibility – the responsibility to get everyone (and everything) within an organisation or department working as efficiently and effectively as possible.
Change is what business managers revel in. They are constantly looking at ways to improve the company, now and in the future. Strategic thinking, excellent communication and negotiation skills, a desire to be on top of all the latest trends and innovations and an ability to think outside the box are all key requirements of the job.
It’s not a post for the faint-hearted either. Not everyone embraces change, especially those whose jobs are at risk.
Becoming a business manager is often an organic process built on years of experience working at different firms. Generally speaking, however, a degree in a relevant subject such as business studies is required. In-house or distance learning management courses are also great ways to help people climb the career ladder.
